Als die GOL Boeing 737 am 29. September 2006 in Manaus abhob, um nach Rio de Janeiro zu fliegen, sollte es eigentlich ein ganz normaler Inlandsflug werden. Doch mitten über dem Amazonasgebiet kollidierte die Maschine mit einem Embraer Legacy Business-Jet. Während dem Piloten der kleineren Maschine die Landung gelang, stürzte die Boeing ab, und alle 154 Passagiere an Bord kamen ums Leben.
